Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28 February 1929 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. His father’s name was Dinanath, who himself was also a singer and used to run a Marathi drama company. His mother’s name was Shevanti.
Lata Mangeshkar’s initial name was Hema. But her father was so impressed with Latika’s character in the play Bhav Bandhan that she changed her daughter’s name from Hema to Lata and since then she came to be known as Lata Mangeshkar. Lata Mangeshkar was the eldest of four siblings in her household.
