Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to grant the status of Interim Province to Gilgit-Baltistan. India has lodged strong opposition to this decision of Pakistan. The Prime Minister arrived here on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day.

The Prime Minister had earlier spoken of giving constitutional rights to Gilgit-Baltistan. There was talk of holding elections in November. India has been opposing this decision of the Government of Pakistan and there is opposition to it even within Pakistan.

On this matter, India’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava said, the Indian government opposes this move of Pakistan. This decision of Pakistan will affect the Indian region. It is unconstitutional and illegal. The Government of India is an integral part of Gilgit-Baltistan India, including the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Ladakh.

According to Pakistani news channel, Imran Khan said, “One reason for my coming to Gilgit-Baltistan is to declare that we have decided to give it the status of the provincial province.” We have taken this decision keeping in mind the resolution of the United Nations Security Council.

Imran Khan also mentioned the package to be given to Gilgit-Baltistan and said that we cannot talk much about it now because the rules implemented due to elections will be violated. Opposition parties are angry with Imran Khan’s decision. Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said, with this decision, India’s decision to make Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh a union territory will also be valid.
